Here's a vid where a knapper finds his own stuff online being sold by someone as authentic.

Fake Artifacts Empty Re: Fake Artifacts

I've not sold any of my work so far, but I intend to in the future, we go to great lengths to make our work look authentic so we need to mark them in such a way that this does not happen. I use a pen type glass cutter to scratch into the surface a makers mark (my initials) and year of manurfacture, this I will tuck in a hinge flake (there is usually one!) so as to make it impossable to remove, this also makes a feature of a bit of a boo boo.
In John C. Wittaker's book he advises to paint with indian ink your makers mark and date and to cover with clear nail varnish, this is good practice but I feel that solvents could remove such marks by someone intent on re-selling a replica as genuine, in short fraud.
All be warned by this story.

I agree about making sure our work looks authentic but shouldn't be passed off on the future at authentic (however tempting it is to annoy the odd archy).

i can only dream of my knapping looking good enough to pass for authentic, i feel the problem is if its knapped with the right tools and from the right material the only thing that makes it not authentic is time --- no one would tell the fake.

I'm planning to upset future archies with my pile of 'failed' artifacts scattered about my Scottish garden.
