Barnacle.

Thats very interesting! Where abouts were you? A couple of years ago I found a microlith on Breedon hill and I have always wondered where the closest knappable stone is. All I can find around me is limestone and Mudstone.

Do you think the flint you found was local or moved glacially? I'd love to find a local source!

i was on a field nr to breedon, the bits i found were not very big as you say lots of limestone, i think they may not be local as i have not seen much in the area, i would think glacial. would love to find a source in the midlands myself.

Thanks Barnacle

I live 15 minutes from Breedon! Were the pieces big enough to make arrowheads?

problem is i think they would be weathered so may not knap, i hope to take a road trip soon in a hunt for flint, i have even resorted to looking in the garden centres for flint but nothing, i recon a trip to see bernie is on the cards, - i saw a lovely arrow found on a field that looks just like the flint bernie has,

i am going over to nr the east coast metal detecting on sunday so will be on the lookout for flint, my friend has recorded 50 knapped items off the field, so maybe i might find some worked flint as well as workable lumps,

have you done much knapping?

Hi Barnacle

Yes I do quite a bit of knapping, I teach primitive skills as a job.
If your ever in Worcester area again, I've some flint that I don't mind parting with.
