Re: Latest Points
A nice bit of flint, the grey bit is just about knappable so I couldn't go for anything ambitious. You can see the rock it came from in the background.
Re: Latest Points
I like that - with the lighter nights coming I hope to spend a bit more time knapping - seeing items like this makes me want to get out and fetch some flint.

Some hand axes, I've been planning on doing a Medway Valley type ficron for a while now, finally got round to it. It's 25 cm this one.
A Some higher res pics of it here.

I bet that was tricky to thin the section under the top part.

Re: Latest Points
Got some flint on Thursday and did some knapping, first for a while and the first thing I knapped was this 7" Beaker Dagger. Perhaps a 'lucky' batch of flint.
Re: Latest Points
a lucky batch alright - that looks like lovely flint, well knapped. the flint i picked up isnt much good, unless i just need more practice.

Re: Latest Points
I've picked up a lot of bad flint in my time. Nowadays I take a hammer with me to the quarry and take a flake off every nodule I examine. Only the the ones that are pure black and flake easily get accepted. Though even bad flint is good for practice with. Even perfect pure black flint has a few bad areas in it, so practising with bad flint means you be ready for them.
Re: Latest Points
Good thinking, been a while since you did a video showing some knapping?

Booth are bootiful (said in the Norfolk dialect) Good and interesting colours and not a hinge in sight.
I've yet to really get into that flint I got from the quarry the other day, the irony is that after getting that flint on foot for the event I then spent most of the knapping demo working a piece of beach flint!
