Re: WTF?
The ID is not by me, it was from my predecessor (professor) Peter Robins who was well in to his 80's when he did the write up for that monster of a Neolithic pick, He was as sharp chap and had the good fortune to dig with Richard and Mary Leakey in Africa on early Palaeolithic sites. A hard act to follow.
We where able to get the pick back from the land owner to have it illustrated some years back for publication and for the PAS record, they were reluctant to let the best thing that they had ever found out of their grasp, but they did. And I thank them for their trust. Really awesome.

Dug with the Leakey's now that is a hard act to follow. Oh. well there was me going to congratulate for the way above average PAS write up, which are so often pretty poor.
Re: WTF?
You got that right! It depends a lot on how interested the FLO is with stone tools.

Re: WTF?
Now that would require a stonking bit of good flint, and a lot of support to stop end shock when you're bashing on the other thin end. It looks to be hard hammer struck. I'd love to make one of these just so I could put a replica handle on it, something like this must have been hafted, maybe like an axe? Any ideas?

Re: WTF?
wonder if it was used like a draw knife bark shaver as the one side looks knapped thinner and a little recessed where it might of been used and touched up.
