Find outside Macdonalds

Just finished my Bigmac & Fries at the Rugby Drive Thru and spotted this small 2" scraper in the shrubbery (eyes to the ground as usual!!).  There's some retouch on the long edge and a lot of retouching/blunting in the notch area. Plus a definate bulb of percussion on the reverse face.







Never heard of many finds in the area- but the site is a few yards from the River Avon, so prehistoric activity is always a possibilty. It pays to keep an open where ever you might be!

That's a good spot. Possibly the highest quality item anyone has ever left a MacDonald's with.

Nice - i have had a few flints not far from the Avon, and know a hill where a chap says you can find tanged arrows, just got to find the time to go take a look.

Where do you think the local flint source is? .... I grew up 6 miles from rugby and have never seen stone of that quality!

I live near to Stafford and we have not natural flint but do find the odd blade and tool while on the fields i have always thought it was from norfolk and traded to reach here.

The Avon river gravel terraces are full of large flint nodules and flint 'river pebbles'. I can't comment on the quality of the material but it certainly looks like they have been working it. Some of the tools are also likely to be 'imported' material.

I'm collecting some of the larger nodules for use in knapping. Got to be a bit carefull here though, some of these nodules have clearly been used as hammer stones and are artifacts in thier own right. Don't want to smash up the archeology!!

Possible Hammerstone?
