CHERT USE IN THE MESOLITHIC OF NORTHERN ENGLAND

Post by grendel on Sun Mar 11, 2012 12:19 pm

this paper examines the use of Chert in not so flint abundant north of England, and how it's use differed from flint.

Very interesting paper, I do wish they'd used a different font though.

it's a good article, i cam across it too when researching possible rock hound trips with my students prior to getting a budget to go to a chalk quarry. My parents live nearby Monsal Dale but i havent had a chance to explore there, though you can still explore the Chert mines (for the porcelaine industry iirc)there as long you get permission from the peak district ranger folk, though i think you'd need a wet suit and scuba gear for some of them - arrow heads made from local chert were also found at nearby Fin Cop (sp?) iirc - will try and dig up some links when i get a bit of free time.
