where do you knap?

I was just wondering where you Knap? have you got a place you like to go, i ask this because i recently cut a tree down in the garden and made a stump out of the trunk, i used it yesterday and it just felt right, might sound sad but i thought to myself this is perfect.

In winter, I knap in the conservatory, which serves as my office, hobby room, et al. When the weather permits, I knap in the garden, where I sit in a nice wooden chair, with a small glass of something cool, sun shining......

Who am I kidding, I live in Scotland, I sit in the garden in between the rain showers.

I do have a favourite spot in the garden though, and yes, it makes a difference when you feel comfortable. So it doesn't sound sad, just think of the coming summer, and all that great knapping you'll be doing.

i have a corridor in the outhouse, betixt the kitchen and my laundry/general junk store... i have formed the habit of knapping while standing as i often just do a few minutes between jobs, standing ankle deep in woodshavings and shards.

Speed knapping!

Yes, obsidian debitage, English Flint flakes, beer bottle shards, coke Zero cans, pie wrappers and a broken fibre optic glass arrowhead are going a to give a future archaeologist a headache someday.

Seriously though I usually dump the debitage in the bin just down the road, and beleive it or not, that whole area will be under water in the wet season, so anything left there will be swept into the Mekong and out to sea, eventually.

I do take me flint knapping stuff with me when I go away in my motorhome. If I find a quiet site, I like to spend an hour or two knapping.
