Very nice work there. I may have said before, although I'm not sure, I read somewhere that they would strike off around 300 flakes before settling on two or three suitable blades for a knife like this.
Sounds like you got close to that amount, it's not easy.
Now for the giant Mayan knife:shock:

that's interesting I'd have thought like Livre de beurre they'd have developed an advanced system of doing it. I know when I did the last nodule and got three flakes I had learnt a few things that would make it more likely if I tried again.

I used pine resin with a touch of beeswax and plenty of ochre.the barnacle wrote:they look real smart, well made. - what resin did you use, you must have a right big pile off flint in your garden now.

Those are really cool, the red tone to the flint in the one on the right is jolly nice too. Are they comfy to hold?

very comfy to hold, the red stuff on the blade was a painting accident and red ochre is a bugger to remove.

Elfshot (Tim Rast) always produces stuff that I'm amazed by, and he seems to not use any modern tools at all. He goes the long way round.
I love my belt sander and I'm not ashamed.

I discovered his blog years ago, and after cursing him for stealing the name, Elfshot, he's not even in England, bloody cheek, I've been a fan ever since. I absolutely love his hafted microliths and keep meaning to make some myself. Also he has this weird flint man, based on a find, but I can't find a picture of the original.
