Re: making a ground stone axe.
That beats my "non-functional but pretty" axe. That is a beast, well done, that and you must be veeeery patient! After that I bet you're arms ached...
I've a 1.5" holly truck (bark on and ends sealed) seasoning with a mind to making a primitive long bow from it, a good, strong native wood, but I've noticed a little drying check coming from a small knot in that too but in a place where I'll be removing wood. How did you work the holly? It's notoriously hard to season

Re: making a ground stone axe.
If i remember rightly i sealed the ends with candle wax then just left it in the hut. I worked it down by placing it on embers then scraping the burnt areas off with a large flint flake. i also used the axe itself for parts of it.
it was pretty tiring but the end product was worth it. Though saying that i wont be rushing to do another anytime soon.

I've no idea what stone it is tbh, I acquired it from a customer who's garden I was landscaping. It's very hard though. If I ever do another I'd use soapstone.

I am still looking for a nice lump of greenstone if anyone happens to have a lump please do think of me also Mr Hertz - I was wondering if you have a large Black flint axe you might be interested in selling to go with the barbed arrows i had from you a while ago.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, just got your message. I've got some green serpentine which is quite soft and easy to work (see previous posts in this topic). I might still have a black Neolithic axe knocking around, if not I can knock one up for you. Cheers!
