Knapping in Films
Thought I'd start a topic on films with knapping in and how it's represented.
The obvious one is Appocalyptico, in that film one of the stars is the knapped knife which is the prized possession of one of the lead characters who passes it onto his son. watching the film I couldn't help thinking they were overestimating the value of something like that back them, surely it would not have been of so great value. Another thing in the film is the fact they keep hitting people with obsidian clubs and no blood, people are just knocked unconscious not eviscerated.
Another non use is Game of Throne the TV show. In the book the wildlings north of the wall are living in stone age technology and have flint weapons whereas on the TV show they have iron. A negative change especially as SPOiLER ALERT, in the books Dragon Glass (obsidian) is the only thing that will kill the others, so some of the Knight's Watch start to carry obsidian daggers they find north of the wall.

A good thread. Appocalyiptico is awesome, and yes, you have let the cat out of the bag slightly with Game of thrones, just watched the second season with Mrs. hertzian and she's saying nothing about the Dragon glass yet, although I did see one of my clear huge glass spearheads in the closing scenes and go "what!!?
Another film with good knapped lithics in is The last wind bender, yet to see it but have seen an interview with the knapper commitioned to make the props. He is bang on, the daggers he made are pure art.

I wouldn't worry too much the TV show now has departed so much from the books they're barely related. The incident where one of the knights watch kills the other with the obsidian dagger doesn't happen in the show and they had the obsidian daggers in the book by the time of the second series. So the whole thing is being skipped in the show.
