Fancy opening a knapping shop?
If you do it may not be such a pipe dream. If this guy can do this in Hackney, anything is possible.

thanks for the link - I hope it works out for him but I cant help but think he has made a mistake - now he has overheads, maybe he needs to share the shop with a knapper

I can't help but think how is he paying the rent by selling spoons? And who in Hackney is paying a tenner for a spoon?
Re: Fancy opening a knapping shop?
I see on his blog he is offering 6 day spoon carving courses for £420 and is fully booked - I think the tv advert has created his business to grow as he is seeking an apprentice,
he also sells the spoons for £15 now - I think business is good for him.

Craft is the in thing now, if you go on Meetup there are entire clubs that meet once a week and sell tickets.

haha, Barn the Spoon! I saw this a little while back and admire the chap, though i think he'll wander back to his simple life soon enough.
He's a bit of a spoon evangelist, and as a sometimes spoon maker myself i can well understand that. As for the price of his spoons, i reckon that he is underselling his work! i would have thought that plenty folk in London (though not Crackney, admittedly) would pay far more for an organic sustainable hippy spoon. I'm not at home at pres, though i will post some of my own work here-ish next week
