I'd heard of this before but never seen one in action. Indirect percussion is becoming massively popular but this is by far the most effective tool I've seen to date.

Probably the flint comes from Erick's rocks in Indiana, in 1997 they they sold approx. 48000 Ib of imported Brandon flint for sale in the U.S. at $2.65 per Ib retail. I didn't know you could still get hold of that flint and I'm based just the other side of the border. Apparently the U.S. can!
Not surprising it looks like your flint as it maybe the same(ish) source.

Interesting, I'll have to try to get some better flint as I'm fed up with beach flint with concrete inclusions!
Back to the punch, I have seen this guy before in John C. Whittaker's book called "American flint knappers" that I recieved the other day and have just now read it from cover to cover. (Damn good book!). He is pictured with a flat copper rod on his lap and wacking it with a piece of antler instead of a bar of nylon, so a similar type of percussion method. That's where the Brandon flint import info came from too.
