Re: nettle string
It does look interesting to try. There is certainly is no shortage of nettles up here.
Re: nettle string
sadly i cant view the vid as i am at work, but i have never tried this with nettles as woodsfolk i work with complained that the shortish fibres can make it a bit of a bind
however i have done it with willow bark, stripped of the outer layer and boiled with wood ash.. as long as you can squeeze plenty of water out as you twine it, it works a treat, and i hear bramble is great stuff for cordage, especially as you dont need to add new fibres so often

Re: nettle string
the purple nettles are the best and theas can grow to 4 - 5 ft tall so not to bad, i have not tried brambles or willow, the string i made was very strong, i just find it interesting to discover what our ancestors did, i have also spent alot of time perfecting fire lighting with a bow, but i have also been trying to light a fire with just the spindle but its hard going especially when you only try to use native wood.
